This really makes me sympathise with the McCanns 16 Years, 1 Month ago
I'd forgotten how vicious and malicious police can be.

There was no other reason to release the info about Maddie's question now than to hurt and damage the parents - on a day when they were trying to do some genuine good.

That question must have given Kate such pain yet what a normal, everyday incident for a mother.

How cruel. And how nasty of the media to carry it so spitefully.

Nobody has ever come out of this incident smelling good. It's almost nastier than the Shannon Matthews story. We all stink because of it.

Not sure that I agree, JK.

Does this comment (reported today) not help confirm the state of mind of Maddie just before her disappearance?

And does it not also help show, that as the parents are (yet again) having another free trip to Europe and (yet again) trying to paint themselves as some kind of saints, Maddie was not at all happy?

Whether it was right or wrong to release this info - and haven't the McCanns themselves released alot of info when it shows them in the light in which they want to be seen? - does not mean that the info itself is wrong.

I'm with you ITK.

Leaving your children on their own whilst you go out for dinner?? (even if they could see their apartment).

I'm sorry, but I feel they have got their priorities really quite wrong!!

Th McCann's certainly didn't complain when a completely innocent man was hassled by the world's media...Bob Murat!

And what does strike me as very odd is the 'eyewitness' account (a friend of the McCann's) whom months after the girl's disappearance says she saw a man carrying a child away from the apartment block on the night of the 'abduction.'

Now why would anyone keep that information under their hat for six months?

All speculation but there are so many inconsistencies it's hard not to become very suspicious indeed.

McCanns won't go back ? 16 Years, 1 Month ago
I see the McCanns have found an excuse NOT to go back to Portugal !

I thought finding their girl was their main priority?

The problem with this story is no one - other than the McCanns - knows the truth as to what happened that night or the preceeding ones.

The demolition of Karen Matthews continues in the gutter press today - again, another one who will not receive a fair trial due to the adverse publicity already against her.

I think Karen Matthews has supplied all the "adverse publicity" herself !

The Police are holding her as they're still trying to find out how she got 5 different men to have sex with her.

You got that slightly wrong MM - she had children by 5 different men, but we have no idea how many men she actually had sex with !

It does prove one thing, though - that Northern beer is definately stronger !

Perhaps the few decent residents there should start building an Ark ?

Depends on whether the local Job Centre has Ark-building courses, MM !

They're obviously picking them all off one by one now for whatever they can get on 'em.
Benefits cheating is an obvious one, unfortunately it's a way of life on almost every estate in the country. A few years ago I worked 3 months in Fraud for the Benefits Agancy (as they were then) taking calls, and believe me the ones that aren't at it are busy curtain twitchin' and reporting those they think are. Even some relatives of mine were claiming to be living apart for the sake of getting more benefit so for all the scare-tactics adverts trying to change peoples perceptions of benefits fraud it isn't changing anything

Re:Shannon - benefits fraud arrests now ! 16 Years ago
you remind me of my belief that those who scream the loudest often have something to hide themselves. It's almost like a mental mechanism that sets off to divert from their own activities.

That's why I get a bit suspicious of those marching out in the streets yelling about the "perverts" etc.

But this benefits fraud thing has probably got heaps of them scurrying for cover now. I bet we don't see too many local residents drawing attention to themselves at present.

Not accusing anyone..just a hunch !!

Got it !
The man accused of kidnapping Shannon was only "borrowing" her so when they came to check how many children he had (and see whether it tallies with his benefit claim) the figures add up !

The really sad thing is, Pete, that it would be alot cheaper for us taxpayers if we kept them out of prison and let them get on with fiddling their benefits, as its costs US more to send them to prison anyway !
