Re:And JK introduces the world to Rubik's Cube with Simon Bates on TOTP 15 Years, 8 Months ago
If you have... me doing Sugar Sugar on TOTP (lost forever) and likewise me doing Seagulls (ditto) - they are much needed Chris!
I think we have most of the others.
But that Rubik one was hidden away on a VHS (remember most of the 60s and 70s were pre VHS) and the b&w Good Evening clips were purchased from ATV by me and saved and converted to tape by my wonderful Mum as a Xmas present decades ago.

"I don't wear that multi coloured wig anymore under any circumstances".
Well you were wearing it when I met you in 1995 in Dublin !
I could never do that stupid cube or any of the other horrid puzzles like it.
Only clip of "Sugar Sugar" I have is the one playing to the chart rundown on the show they repeated on UK Gold last decade ! Did you actually perform it on TOTP ? Were you dancing to the long instrumental section ?

The circumstances changed Mike! Rather like Abba (who became totally naff in the 80s before reviving in the 90s), the wig was very 1978 until it became nostalgically amusing in the 90s.
Come to think of it, I should have worn it in the Old Bailey. I'm sure the dull old judge would have given me an extra couple of years for not taking our crappy judicial system seriously.
Yes, I did perform (in a corduroy hat) as SAKKARIN once on TOTP.
And Seagulls was my only flop on the show - the lovely producer at the time adored it (his daughter is now married to the head of Entertainment at ITV who cancelled Record of the Year) and booked it despite the fact that it didn't sell!

I`m one of the sad ones who actually learned how to do the cube!
Not quite sad enough to have bought a book on it, but a friend gave me a sheet of Basildon Bond paper with 5 points of instructions through the stages of it. I learned this sheet , and could do it in about 5 minutes, a great party trick! I still have my cube, but I can`t recall the last stage anymore on how to finish it. The first 2 layers are quite easy, it`s the last one where it gets hard and that is the state mine remains in.

This is from the 18th September 1980 show - an odd show in so much that there was no studio audience and the music shown was all either repeat performances or videos. I believe that Olivia Newton-John was Bates' co-host that week
