We were just watching him on Sky news, he was brilliant, the guy just gets better and better.

He proclaimed that the "first gay divorce was an event to celebrate that liberation has gone this far!"(n.b. not the exact wording used)

When he first appeared on TV he worried me a little as a viewer but he gave so many breaks to bands also.

I believe he has been ill recently, all power to the guy.
Hail the Whale!

I love the way that he cuts through the headlines and the stories, the guy should have his own newspaper to edit!

Wail the Whale!

I'm delighted the Mighty Whale has at last found a decent outlet for his talent again. Shame it's not a national station though.

I had forgotten that he started his radio career in my neck of the woods at Radio Derby, though I didn't start listening to him until he worked at Radio Aire, when I was a student in Leeds. He really was a magnificent breath of fresh air in those days.

I used to drive up to Leeds and stay overnight just to guest on his TV show - which was a ground breaker.
And he was the only national broadcaster who dared support me - and my God he got stick for it!

And of course, he did nothing wrong and shoudn't have been fired (sarcasm!); there are MUCH better chaps on radio (Mayo ?).

And, of course, his TV career is lengendary ?!

Well Oskur, for every pound of meat we eat, we all have to give a way a pound of cheese in this business.

I've learnt a great deal from Whale, both educationally and also in the way people should be treated.

That interview you did with him on talkSPORT was legendary, perhaps more for its honesty than anything else.

Well Whale proved that our laws that are inflicted on us via Ofcom are bizarre and decades out of date. These days you can set yourself up as an "internet broadcaster" and say what you want more or less, with just a little attention to libel and defamation laws. If Whale said on the internet what he said on the AM/DAB dials, nothing would have been said, nothing could have been said.

No offence to the current anchor man on BBC Breakfast, who can be rather amusing, but if James Whale was given that job, he would be rivetting and essential viewing as opposed the take it or leave it attitude the show currently displays.

The solution to not being able to hear him on normal radio is get an INTERNET radio. I got so fed up with how crap the DAB system is in this country (most of the new stations have closed down and the signal is actually not much better than FM) that I bought one recently and it is fabulous - over 10000 stations to choose from all over the world.

Is it battery powered Foz?

I promised my brother one for Xmas two years ago but couldn't find a portable battery powered one.

Internet radio is quite complicated to set up isn't it? I've thought about getting one but wouldn't I need to be on a wireless network or something for it to work? It's not just a case of plug in and off you go is it?
DAB is ok but I find it's quite restrictive for choice. My grandmother was most disappointed recently when Smooth Radio was removed from the DAB multiplex around here.

Yes you can now - Pure radios have just released a portable one called the Flow with an optional rechargable battery pack. Probably lasts 5 mins if youre listening to internet radio but it's a start.
Re the connection, I bought a cheap one a year ago to try it out thinking it would be a problem setting up, but you do literally just have to plug them in to your broadband or type in the WiFi code for wireless connection. Mine connected first time.

By the way I dont have shares in these things, I was just exasperated at how digital radio is operated in this country. Loads of people listen to DAB, but they just listen to the likes of Radio 2 or 4 so the new stations like theJazz which I thought was pretty good have folded within a year. Now it's mooted that they are bringing out DAB+ and any DAB radio bought before 2008 won't be able upgrade to this, therefore they wont get any of the new DAB stations which open in the future. So I think there will soon be many people defecting to internet radio especially with the increase in wireless broadband

Good point! It is where the internet radios have a disadvantage, as I dont believe there is a hot spot on beachy head (yet).
