TOPIC: Come on Hull!

Come on Hull! 15 Years, 6 Months ago
I'm a Londoner and have no interest in Hull; I hated the Housebudgies, as I called them, but I would love to see little Hull top the Premiership.

3-0!

Top of the lot!

I'm not much of a footie fan (give me baseball and US football any day) but this little team, with players costing a fraction of the big boys, only just squeaking into promotion last season - are a lesson to us all.

It's not money, it's not stars, it's spirit and enthusiasm that does it, in every walk of life and every human relationship.

Credit crunch? Recession? Fuck 'em; it's Hull that is showing us all what matters.

The marvellous thing about Hull, is because it is only some 45 minutes away from us over the Humber Bridge, if we fancy going there for a shop round, we can park easily by The Deep, which is an amazing and new touristy place, and walk into town in about 10 minutes.

Being blue card holders due to my little boy having special needs, it costs us nothing to park, too!

Back to football - very deserved for them and they have the infrastructure of their massive stadium to keep them there. The "Director of Football" is a chap called Colin Murphy who managed my football team twice in the 70s and 80s and has been ill for most of this year, so it's good for him too.

Being not from Hull, I can only say that it is the worse drive from where I live in the world, but what a magnificent bridge you have!

Ok, I shall also go along with this bid for Hull City, due to also being a Blue Badge Club member Steve.

Saw them outplay my team Spurs (pre Harry) 1-0 and play very well.

Without getting too technical, the manager has kept the defence together (most of those players have played in all four divisions), he has added quality in the midfield (who doesn't like Brazilian players) and put goals in the attack.

And also their chairman and director of football (didn't realise they had one) let the manager manage/buy/sell the players.

That way you get a great relationship between the chairman, manager, players and most importantly the players.

Not particularly nice when it's extremely windy and you see the lorries wobbling along the roadway!

But yes, for blue badge holders, Hull is a wonderful place for parking and it has a fine amount of shops, both popular and niche ones!

I like it so much that I'm looking at working there, since it's a 45 minute drive from where I live, and the city I currently work in, Lincoln, can sometimes be that if the traffic is working against me!

No ta!

The other week I did travel to London and the East Coast railway is so much better now than it was when I lived in the Capital. I parked my car in Grantham, and the return journey from London to HOME was just over 2 hours, which included the train and the car ride. Couldn't believe it, almost commutable!

2 hours? thats brill and only one complete playing of "Tales from Topagraphic Oceans " by Yes,once.

Measure a very painful journey by that album of theirs, failing that, stick "Una Paloma Blanca " on repeat in the car cd player! You need to feel the pain of the entire journey, man, from london!

I worked with a band on session, once , in the deep. deep, south of the UK (lol), I said "Why are you so tired?", they replied "just driven back from Hull!"

If I had an MBE on me, which of course I would not have in a million years I would have given it to them for the pure achievement of the driving.
