Indeed I do think Mugabe has been the victim of media exaggeration.
I also think he's probably been an appalling leader and is guilty of dreadful crimes.

A silly little prank in a little heard late night show should have been shrugged off as trivial.

On commercial radio they would have both been sacked instantly. C'mon JK...you know the rules. Not everyone is a victim of the media. Some do deserve everything they get.

The main point here is that the act was committed first, and without it there would be no publicity. It's not an invention of the media.

Same with Mugabe - media attention because of his actions. Same with Hitler, Stalin, and many others over the years.

When I was a young boy I used to think it was a silly prank to shout abuse through people's letter boxes, especially at the retirement bungalows. But I grew up. I realised that it did cause distress to the person on the receiving end. Other kids thought that stuffing fireworks through the letter boxes was just a prank, but I never went that far.

I know someone who knows Andrew Sachs, but I don't know him myself so wouldn't attempt to assume how he feels about it all. I think it's a very sad situation, brought about by immature and misguided "celebrities" who, no doubt, didn't see any harm. Unfortunately, it's those who don't see the harm who usually cause the most harm.

However, I suspect that these suspensions are merely cosmetic. Ross and Brand will likely be back at work shortly, not having learned anything from the experience.

I don't think that it was a little heard of show, it was the top rated bbc podcast. Although few people would have heard it live, as most youngish people are out on saturday nights, however thousands more would have listened to it via the podcast (like me) or via listen again.
That said, it has been blown out of all proportion by the media (like everything else), and Ross and Brand should have known this was going to happen.

ps. Max will have more time on his hands now as he has been sacked by Kerry Katona.

There are some extremely funny prank phone call shows-the best coming out of the US like Crank Yankers on MTV..very creative and funny but not offensive.

Obviously they intended to include the grand-daughter bit as why would there be any other reason to call Sachs ?

Sacking either is most unfair if it's done for this reason as the tabloids are the ones milking and promoting the outrage.

At the same time-Jonathon Ross and 16 Mill a year ?.2 maybe, but talk about someone being paid way above their worth. All the BBC should do is use this as an excuse to re-negotiate his contract.

Not in this crazy upside down society Denise. The victims are the villains and the villains are the victims. Sometimes this is true...but only sometimes. It is why the thugs and the scumbags are winning, and the law abiding citizen is penalised. CCTV is used to spy on people putting their rubbish in the wrong bins on the wrong day. Yesterday a thug who stamped on a goth girl's head until there was nothing left recognisable got his life sentence quashed.
