I was quite annoyed, though not surprised, by Ken Livingstone's rigid defence of the police involved in the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes. John Humphries was right to ask, "So have we learned nothing from this case?"

The problem with humanity is that few of us ever learn from past mistakes. If we look at the witch hunts of the 1600s, or the 50's paranoia about reds under the beds, or any number of past frenzied campaigns against one group or other, it's obvious that we haven't grown or changed a bit.

good message
..I hope it begins to sink in with the general public how they are hoodwinked on so many occasions whether by the media, police or politicians.

By 2008 I thought it would be far different to how it is now..that truth would be valued highly and principles and human values would be cherished.

Instead it's the opposite-we have a media where profit is the only thing that matters and any amount of lies or exagerations will be told in the pursuit of that profit.

That can mean one person is incarcerated for an alleged sex crime (where all sanity flies out the window) with police and politicians colluding..not necessarily by outright corruption but by being like-minded in their goals, or a war pursued in Iraq with thousands of civilians -where men, women and children can die needlessly because of the vanity of politicians who refuse to admit their mistakes, or an odious press baron like Rupert Murdoch will shamelessly beat the war drums and not give a hoot about the outcome.

However we do have a chance to correct all this-the internet which came from the most unlikely of sources-the CIA.

The net has been an amazing tool for so many to get the truth out and for thousands of others to realize they are not alone in their thoughts and beliefs when they just know something is wrong with the system but they can't quite put their finger on it.

And because of that I believe freedom of the internet is where the next battles will be fought..the freedom we currenty enjoy but which is under threat by politicians who simply cannot abide the people having their own voice and the corporate media who want to own the net and willingly promote the so-called evils of the net as justifiction for cracking down on it's free use.

Let's not let them get away with it..Freedoms are hard won and easily lost!

I think it's a positive thing - the institutionalised immorality of police, media and judiciary is being spotted (see the Mirror campaign to get the guilty murdering police prosecuted).

Thank goodness for The Mirror. At least there is one paper standing up and saying that the DeMenzes verdict was complete bollocks and that the Police should pay for that senseless act of cold blooded murder.

But then again, Murdoch has no control over The Mirror...

The whole attitude of the POLICE FORCE is wrong.

If you look at the recruitment process you will see the following ( Sussex Police site )

1. A potential recruit is asked if they can arrest a "criminal father on christmas day whilst he is with his kids" - yet as we know unless the law has been changed a person is not a criminal until convicted of the offence of which they are being arrested for. Therefore SUSSEX POLICE presume GUILT - and any trial or investigation is to "prove" yourself innocent. This is generally the BAD ATTITUDE which led to the DE MENEZES killing - they judged him a criminal who HAD TO DIE BEFORE HE KILLED others ( with no evidence at all of course ) This is what is called a POLICE STATE in other countries.

2. A potential recruit is told they need NO EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS at all. Not only that there is NO GRADUATE scheme or POST GRADUATE scheme. This means that the average PLOD is the dregs of society who has come from a SINK COMPREHENSIVE. I can prove this because according to NEW LABOUR most schools deliver kids with at least 5 GCSES. So why does the police not enforce that as an entry requirement ? Because 90% of those who apply basically are the truants and the dross at the bottom of our failed and broken society.

When you put this quality of person in charge of GUNS and TAZERS and INVESTIGATIONS that is why you could miscarriages of justice every minute of every day. Where the POLICE were fooled by KAREN "CHAVE" MATTHEWS into spending HALF A MILLION quid ( when a few questions asked of her neighbours would have told them not to believe her - if the BBC could find neighbours and ask them then why couldnt the POLICE ? )

This is another reason WHY CELEBRITY CASES ( Like AL FAYED - KING - JONES - and hundreds of others ) are usually based on no evidence and hearsay or allegations for money. But the POLICE love the chance for limelight and to belittle successful and more intelligent people than themselves. They have MASSIVE CHIPS on their shoulders. Sir IAN BLAIR is the classic example of a man who carries most of McCAINS ANNUAL OUTPUT on one shoulder.

In the UK we have the OVEN CHIP POLICE FORCE. Overpriced - overpaid - overcooked - and nothing like the real thing.

The GOVERNMENT uses its courts and spin doctors to cover up our incompetent POLICE - and to hide the shocking truth about DE MENEZES. Yet US THE PUBLIC know the truth. They may smear us all as terror suspects - paedophiles - enemies of the state - or just plain nuts : but the truth is now coming out about what the POLICE actually do to "get a result" and that is to basically "LIE AND CHANGE THE TRUTH " so that is was DE MENEZES fault he was killed.......

I agree the internet is one place - but the best place is to talk quietly to people in bars and restaurants - and in the streets - and instead of talking about the weather or X Factor - tell them about how you feel about the DE MENEZES case and ID CARDs. The two things are linked - we are living on the edge of an authoritarian state.

I have no idea personally WHY the authorities are trying to get totalitarian measures in place - seemingly before 2012.....but the conspiracy theorists have several scenarios for 2012.....or it could just be another threat by overbearing Government to destroy the small amount of freedom we actually have.
