Very sad - mind you 80 is a good age (he says as he passes 64)...

I remember trying to get him onto Good Evening to talk about The Prisoner and he refused, saying (like Julie Christie), an actor should speak other's lines and never become a celebrity in their own right.

An interesting (and valuable as we get more experience) point of view.

I found him to be a rather strange bloke but who can forget his brilliant and menacing performance in Mel Gibson's Braveheart ? He should have got an Oscar for that film and he was possibly one the very greats who just missed out on some good roles. Sad.
