Boycott the ONE SHOW BBC Fascists 15 Years, 3 Months ago
I am appalled that the FASCIST BBC is now trying to sideline Carol Thatcher......you will not believe what for.....saying the word GOLLIWOG in the Green Room off air as well.

So the BBC is now saying ANYONE who says the word GOLLIWOG is now to be banned from the BBC.

The NEW LABOUR grip on the BBC to try and outlaw anyone popular who is connected with the TORY party is getting out of hand.

Those in charge at the BBC should resign.

I believe the time is coming when EVERYONE will not only boycott the channel but boycott the license fee.

What did Jonathan Ross say on BBC on AIR about her MUM ( Mrs Thatcher ) to CAMERON ?

Now which is the most offensive ?

Funny that........

I completely agree with JK on this. Absolutely ridiculous. It wasn't a serious remark and more importantly wasn't on air.

I find mainstream television grossly offensive. Dumbed-down morning tv for the hard-of-thinking is nigh on unbearable - remedial current affairs and talk-shows full of dumb slags, and the very sight of yet more hand-wringing po-faced newscasters sat there churning out more cliches in the name of 'news' makes we want to destroy my television set. 'The One Show' is an example of the tv equivelant of 'Take A Break' magazine that the super-dumb 21st Masses are lapping up, and it wants sacking never mind Carol Thatcher.
I note that ITV are cutting down their quality drama as the DFS advertising budget decreases, they ought to stop buying in abysmal games shows like Jasper Carrot's GoldenCunts instead.
Most kids tv is actually better made and less patronising than the mainstream equivalent.
If people are so shocked and concerned by an off-the-cuff remark they didn't hear by someone they don't actually know, then they need to take a reality check (and perhaps a handful of barbiturates at the same time)

Me too. I think TV has dumbed itself down to the same level as the tabloid papers in that it churns out hypocritical BS that is an insult to anyone with intelligence. Look at how they all went mad over the bloody snow!

As for the Carol Thatcher situation... a complete and utter disgrace. Maybe the BBC ought to plant hidden microphones in Jonathan Ross' dressing room... I'm sure he'd be booted within minutes if the "rules" applied to Thatcher were applied to him.

What next? Guests being booted from Ross' show at the final moment because somebody overheard them saying something that's regarded as not being PC?

I really haven't time for somebody like Thatcher but I do think the way the BBC have treated her is despicable. It's NOT OK for Carol to say "golliwog" in private but it IS OK for the BBC to splash that word around all over their website and allow it to end up on some front pages...

That's how hypocritical and farcical this whole situation is.

maybe it was just a case of somebody didn't like carol thatcher and this is just being used as an excuse
or is it because it was deemed as racist and the bbc couldn't possibly allow that to go unpunished or the bbc will be accused of being racist
i think the bbc started to go down hill with john birt and has steadily nosed dived since, how about jk as director general

I worked briefly with Thatcher on the same publication in Oz-she wouldn't have a racist bone in her body.

I can understand the BBC wanting to fire her-she has nil personality but this strikes me as payback. Very unafair..

The thing that annoys me is the way some people are saying she should never have been employed by the BBC because of the damage her mother did to this country.

I disagree that her mother did any damage, but that's an aside. It's amazing that Jo Brand was one of those said to be offended, when Ms Brand herself can be quite offensive to and about different groups in her act.

I remember a kids TV show in the 70s called "You Must Be Joking", presented by a young Pauline Quirk and featuring the band Flintlock. In one of the sketches a white couple said to their black son, "We thought we should tell you where you came from." The boy replied, "Oh it's ok we learned all about that at school." The father then said, "No, it's not that, you see .. we got you off the back of a jam jar." I think the father was played by Jim Bowen. No complaints at all back then.

I Thatcher damaged the country then let us consider our current leader :

Biggest Ever Manufacturing losses
Biggest dip in GDP since the war
Biggest Unemployment since the war ( when you add up )
Most Unpopular PM since the War
Most Incompetent PM in History
Gaff after Gaff at PPMs ( Saving the world - Depression)
Taking away Civil Liberties from the people

need I go on.

I cant think of one positive thing.

I would not be suprised if he personally ordered Thatcher to be pulled off TV because having there showed him up even more by reminding people of how Thatcher saved the UK in 1980 after the "Winter of Discountent"

Pauline Quirke and Jim Bowen, eh? Of course, they then went on to found a major UK DIY retailer!

@BR- I do think Thatcher caused an awful lot of damage. It was on her watch that the politics of "Me Me Me" started to prevail, ripping the soul out of our country. This unfettered greed has now reached its culmination in total economic destruction. I do agree with all your points about Nu Labour. They have continued where Thatcherism left off, and added state interference and the dismantling of civil liberties for good measure. And don't get me started on Jackboot Jacqui. I agree with every word you say about her.

Right on.

I have been saying for some time that the current climate and situations all had it's roots in that hellish Tory dictatorship from 79 to 97. The Tories created so much damage that whoever followed them would have an impossible task to reverse it. Unfortunately "New Labour" was simply the Tories under a different name since they simply continued where the Tories left off. Of course Brown and Blair has made it all much worse but I firmly believe that Thatcher and her hateful governments are at the root of all the shit going down today.

Problem is, what choice do we really have - Brown or Cameron? Some choice... I wouldn't trust either with one of my nose droppings let alone my country.

Going back to the original subject matter, if i may, The issue surrounding Carol Thatcher has more to do with the context in which it was said. To all those who think that referring to someone as a Goliwog is acceptable i suggest you bin all the "Please Sir" videos and consider yourselves racist. By the way, we live in the 21st century, i fail to see the significance of a 70's kid show. What was ok then is not ok now.

I mentioned the 1970s kids show to emphasise the changes in attitudes, not to try and justify anything either way.

Did Carol Thatcher refer to the person as a gollywog, or did she say that they looked like a gollywog? There is a difference. I have occasionally pointed out that Patrick Moore resembles a turnip, but I like the guy enormously. I would never suggest that he really is a turnip.

If you said it with malice however, I suspect Patrick may stick his telescope were the sun don't shine!

This is the tennis player concerned.

He does have hair like a golliwog/golly doll whatever you want to call it.

Which brings us back to Carol Thatcher saying that the tennis player looked like a "very huggable golliwog". Obviously not said with malice.

'One Show' insiders claim that she was referring to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. So far there seems to have been no response from him, and the reactions are from people taking offence on his behalf whether he does or not. If it turns out that he is not offended, then for others, who are not black, to take offence in his place smacks of racism in itself.

Rather like the Prince Harry incident. Harry's Asian friend was not offended, just others who thought that he should be. Then it was revealed that the largest online Pakistani community calls itself paki.com, and several white turned whiter, apasrt from those which turned red.

So .. let's wait until we hear whether the person Carol Thatcher was refering to is offended of not. If they are not then, as this was said off-air in a private conversation, we have no right to be. It's nothing whatsoever to do with us. However, how the BBC behaves has much to do with us because it is publicly funded. If this comment had been broadcast, that would have been different.

i don't think you can compare a 70's comedy sketch with green room chit chat especially as there is a 30 year difference
we don't know what context the remark was made, what we do know is that if you are j. ross you can behave appalling when broadcasting to millions but if you are carol thatcher you can pass a possible racist remark in private and be sacked
what it does is show the bbc's twisted views and odd, inconsistent stance on moral issues
i'd sack the lot and start again if jk won't take up the gauntlet of director general how the soup dragon from the clangers, can't be worse than mark whatsisname

Re:Boycott the ONE SHOW BBC Fascists 15 Years, 2 Months ago
So how would Adrian Chiles and Jo Brand describe this person's hair ?

As far as I can see it looks exactly like a Golliwog ( children's toy )

Where is the offence is saying that ?

I still dont find anything at all offensive about the Black and White Minstrels or Golliwogs. Neither of them are racist.

It is like saying that the DAME in a panto is demeaning to transexuals or homosexuals.....because they camp it up in drag.....

Yet the BBC broadcasts Pantos all the time at Christmas - including on Blue Peter.

This is a VENDETTA by the BBC against the TORY PARTY - hence it is political.

I still think BROWN is behind the BBC. They represent his views - he briefs them before Parliament and they tend to "BOUNCE" with him - when he organises one of his famous "COME BACKS" which get more laughable every time.

I have NO OPINION on CAMERON - except that we need to give him a chance. I have no problem with people going to Eton or Cambridge or being well off if they are human and care about the rest of us. I am not jealous like those in the Loony Left of success.

Therefore the election of a new Government cant come quickly enough - and I hope they sort out the BBC and make it a private company.

I blame all today's woes on Thatcherism & Reaganism and who was Tony Blair's hero ??...Margaret Thatcher !
(that should have sent alarm bells ringing)

Carol Thatcher is an exellent journalist and unlike her awful brother Mark, has never used her mother's connections.
