I never got around to seeing this before despite being a huge Will Smith fan (must put my photo with him and Jazzy Jeff up in the Photos section). Watched it on Ch4 last night. Loved it. Will is the best action hero - better than Craig and even Damon.
Excellent film. I ignore the critics and watch what I want THEN read them to see if they agree with me. Sometimes they do - sometimes they dont.
Some of the best things I have ever seen have been panned by the critics - such as the musicals Les Miserable and Metropolis ( which sadly did not have enough money to survive the mauling ). So they only give a personal view.
When it comes to movies, I have particular rules which helps me choose whether to invest 90 minutes or so, of my precious time or not.
If it is critically acclaimed...
If it has Oscars showered upon it...
If it is James Bond...
If it has Roman numerals in the title...
If it stars Tom Cruise...
If it's directed by Oliver Stone...
The Reader and Slumdog millionnaire were showered with Oscars and I enjoyed both of them very much. However "No Country for Old men" bored me to tears. Perhaps because I watched the latter on dvd and the first 2 at the cinema, thus I become easily distracted when watching films at home.
Also I enjoyed "The Island" very much and it was widely criticised (mainly for copying off Logan's Run).
I-Robot. Usual scenario. Read the fantastic book and watched Hollywood ruin it. They even changed the original ending to suit the American market. Stupid just stupid.
I never read the book and agree about bloody Hollywood endings but I was pleasantly surprised by both Northern Lights and Lion Witch and Wardrobe - so they can sometimes get it right.
Harry Potter improved as it went on.
Either way, I loved I-Robot and am delighted I watched it.
