I know this is going to upset JK. But I'm afraid as we approach the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, then certain questions need answering.

This is a problem for me because I cannot accept the unofficial line that was towed by The Sun at the time that it was the fault of the fans.

As far as I am aware JK still worked for The Sun during that time.

So maybe he can shed some light on why The Sun decided to go against the victims and support the police and those responsible for the disaster?

No disrespect to JK...and I'm utilising his board to do this...he can of course choose to ignore me.

But this is his chance to perhaps explain why the tabloids go for the 'better story' rather than the truth...and they most certainly did in this case.

Like it or not..The Sun at the time went for the best story...which of course was a pack of lies.

JK..over to you...not being obnoxious...but you should know how that paper operated at the time and what made McKenzie go with a big set of lies.

The Sun reporting of that disaster flies in the face of surely everything you stand for then and now?

I am putting MacKenzie in the dock!

Kelvin was a brilliant editor but his fatal flaw was sometimes getting the public wrong. He did it with Hillsborough (a total disaster and the boycott of the Sun continues to this day in Liverpool). He did it with Elton John.

When he got it right (most of the time) he was great (and the Sun sold millions more copies in his era).
When he got it wrong, he got it very wrong indeed.

But people can change. I was delighted to see on TV last week he's come over to our side on capital punishment and now opposes it.

I was always surprised that certain fans refused to take even part of the blame. The gates were opened for human beings, not a heard of stampeding buffalo. Did the fans who pushed into the enclosure not hear the cries of those being crushed in front of them? Could they not see what they were doing? It is ridiculous to suggest that it was entirely the fault of those who let them in. The responsibility must be shared by all those involved. Certain fans behaved irresponsibly. That cannot be denied.

Thanks JK. Straightforward no nonsense reply.

I do know that The Sun has tried and failed many times over the course of the last 20 years to win back the Liverpool circulation. They couldn't even give copies away.

You'll get tons of hate mail from Liverpool now, Emma. You can't ever question their victim status.
But I agree the blame can be shared, even by a section of the Liverpool fans.

My mum's from Liverpool and she agrees. Good thing she doesn't still live there.

The late Brian Clough stated if the fans had got to the ground in time, queued properly and taken their places without rushing and pushing then this disaster would never have happened.
