Why we would should all consider voting TORY 15 Years, 1 Month ago

This is a huge step in protecting the human rights of everyone.

A DNA database of those who have not been convicted of anything is illegal and is the "Symbol of the Police State"

The Tories have shown that they will not have a Police State through this policy.

Still plans for a consortium JK?

Still up for the revolution?

Perhaps we should get together...some of the posters here. In a secret location of course.

JK could be the colourful charismatic spokesman and leader...BR the publicist (or maybe not:woohoo: )...I'm fat and deeply unattractive, but could do wonders behind the scenes as it were.

It's a long shot but if there are so many pissed off folks in this fair isle, we could, during a good week take over...

Just feels that the Tories are jumping on the bandwagon,as labour did before them.
Don't trust any of them, but may protest vote for the Greens,or similar.

I'm not sure in what areas the Tories are just as bad as Labour, apart from the occasional dodgy expenses claim which seems to be a weakness of all MPs and officials.

From what I understand, the Tories will scrap ID cards, scrap the DNA database, scrap the need for parents to have CRB checks, scrap the policy of intercepting and recording our emails, phone calls and texts, raise the limit for inheritance tax (although I would scrap it altogether because it is just plain grave robbing), scrap the requirement to give details of itinerary and reasons for travelling outside of the UK mainland, and take many other steps to restore freedoms to the people.

I do not think the Tories are perfect, but I see them as far less offensive than Labour. The realistic alternative, for this next election, is at least four more years of Labour misrule. I don't see anyone else getting enough votes, not even the Lib Dems.

Maybe in another 5 years a perfect party will emerge ( ) but for now we must make the best of the options available. The priority must be to get Labour out. We can deal with all the other stuff afterwards.

I fear that, exactly like Labour, Cameron's Tories will just go for the populist, tabloid, simplistic, headline policies.

I like Hague. I like Cable. But I trust no parties at the moment.

Possibly we should form VilePerverts as a political party.

What the tories say they will do and what they actually will do are two different things. The major issues are the recession and unemployment. id cards and dna aren't going to do anything about the recession, what we need is a party that will support British Jobs for British workers and not outsource all our work or bring in cheap labour from abroad.

I agree with Emma. The Tories will at least clean up the mess we are now in. But as others have pointed up we dont have much choice.

If we DONT vote Tory ( or in a marginal for the nearest party to Labour ) then we will get Labour for another 4 years. The way they are dismantling civil liberties is a very frightening thing.

We have to give the Tories a chance - if they mess up then we can vote them out at the next election. It would be madness to keep voting labour or for parties which will allow Labour back in.

The media will run a massive campaign for BROWN like they did when he took over - for 40 days he monopolised the BBC giving speeches every day and basically having a free reign. The BBC pushed him to the top of the polls when in reality he had done nothing - and they could not maintain it once the poor policies made people realise he was no good.

Problem is that for a 30 day period he might just sneak back in because of his media support and probably he will arrest the opposition parties the week before the campaign starts on accusation of terror or paedophile stuff etc. That is what worries me about our current government - full of spin and no substance. Yet the dumbed down population will believe whatever the SUN and BBC tell them to do.

Exactly. Just like New Labour. I voted for Blair for 2 reasons - to get rid of the Tories who had decimated Britain and because Blair promised a referendum on Europe. 12 years later and where's that referendum?

NONE of these parties can be trusted. Cameron the slime will simply make empty promises as a ploy to win votes. He has no intention of changing anything let alone the balls or ability.

They all piss in the same pot.

The "choice" we have is useless. Whichever we get, we're screwed.

So what is your suggestion? Are we to not vote for an alternative because they might not do what they say they'll do? How will you know if you do not give them a chance? The realistic alternative is more years of Labour. I guess if you support their policies that won't be a problem for you, but if you do not support their policies then you need to do something about it.

Lots of fringe parties to vote for, but not enough concentrated support for either, and the attitudes I'm seeing on forums and teletext suggests that Labour will remain in power through voter apathy. People moan but do nothing, and then moan more because nothing has been done. Then they try excuse their inaction by claiming it would have made no difference.

After the next election I truly expect the UK voters to get the government they deserve - because they couldn't be bothered to choose another one.

I really do despair of the British people.

The 'first past the post' voting system in the UK really does mean we only have 2 choices. Both of which haven't exactly had a good record of protecting civil liberties.
Until we get a proportional representation system here we'll just have a choice between 2 lots of empty policies.
They're both screwing our taxes for inflated expenses claims,so why should we trust them on their policies?

And what shall we do when hundreds of thousand British workers, who currently get work overseas get kicked out for taking foreign jobs??? You sound like a candidate for UKIP.

I can understand that we opened our borders BEFORE the other EURO states to the new Euro states - and we reaped some of the benefits of that with cheap labour. The problem in a recession is that there are not enough jobs for everyone. You cant organise jobs by race......so there is nothing that can be done on that front.

I believe the TORIES would bring in less threats to our civil liberties. They have vowed to get rid of ID Cards and much of the Big Brother legislation. That alone wins it for me.

I again agree with Emma. We need to get Labour out. For just that reason and that reason alone it is worth voting and voting Tory.

I think the problem is that we vote parties in for too long. Any longer than 8 years means their snouts go in the trough ( every party is like this - human nature ) so as an electorate we should give the party a max of 8 years.

Cameron's TORIES are not the same as the Major/Thatcher party. So we dont know yet how good or bad they would be. I say give them a chance because BROWN has proved he is a disaster as Prime Minister. He should go off and run the World Bank where he would be very happy. We will also need a balance when BLAIR becomes President of Europe......

Problem with saying that we cannot vote a sitting government in for more than 8 years is you will limit the options for the voter, and probably put many MPs out of a job. No point in them standing if they cannot win, and if they can only be elected to opposition there is not much point in voting for them. That's an unworkable policy. A party could get 90% of the vote and not be permitted to office?

It would be undemocratic. The electorate should be able to keep a government in office if they choose too. Let's not take away yet another choice.

Your lifetimes ration of democracy is ten crosses. Just dont run away with the pencil.

"We can sit back and relax
We can watch the others face attacks
We can wait and hope in vain
We can vote them in again"

From "Cant Forgive" by Fire Next Time. From a long forgotten album called North To South released by Polydor in 1988. The only video by them is currently unavailable on You Tube. Good pop rock wih a political edge. Like the Redskins but the tunes were better.

You can vote them in again if you like but whoever they are they will end up like the last lot. If the Tories are the answer it must have been a really stupid question.
