This is truly developing into one of the best sci fi series I have ever seen.

High praise from the country that has given us BUFFY - HEROES - STAR TREK.

This series is exceptional in every way so far. Just hope the last two match up to the first three episodes.

I'm salivating over the arrival of Torchwood. We get these shows on the excellent government ABC station about 3 months after the UK.

## a further tale in my Murdoch demise obsession :one right-wing ratbag Communications Minister in the just defeated government wanted the ABC which he perceived full of "left-wing bias" etc to become commercial and carry adverts ..the great joy being of course shows are televised ad-free.

Murdoch and his co-horts leaned on the minister correctly pointing out that if the ABC carried ads,, with it's ratings of around 40% of viewers it would decimate commericial outlets !

I know what the critics of Barrowman mean - he should be far more selective in what he chooses to do - but I like him a lot and he's brilliant in this (and, at the moment, shock, horror, possibly the BADDIE!).

The key, of course, as always, is Russell T Genius - regular visitors will know I've been a huge fan ever since Queer As Folk.

Tonight was easily the best Sci Fi drama ever made by the BBC or ITV. This episode was the most emotional stomach churning epic I have seen on the small screen.

I actually wish it would finish now.

I cant see how they can reconcile the series without it losing the incredible drama and reality that tonight showed.

The only way seems that Torchwood looks as if it is finished........as well as Planet Earth.

The scary thing is that the whole thing is very believable.

I reckon it will become the biggest thing on TV in the USA this year - they are going to love this so much. They are even bigger fans of this genre than us and this is such an original and British take on the genre.

Congrats to all involved. Stunning acting all round and stunning writing and effects.

Totally drained after watching that episode.

PARTY POOPER ALERT!!!

Hated it thus far. Well intentioned but dreadful. Bad script, horrendous acting...typical Russell T Davies. I've endured four episodes ...can't endure the fifth.

Who wants a 'hero' that can't die anyway? Much more exciting if they are mortal... and vulnerable.

Rubbish!

Ah Fat Controller, the thing is he is immortal but still VERY vulnerable. He can die, he can be killed, but he comes back for more, continually.

Well after all 5 shows I think it warrants "Best series of the Year".

Eve Myles was fabulous.

But it's another triumph for Russell T Davies.

You're all mad!! The X Files, The Outer Limits, early Doctor Who, all miles better than the hugely ridiculous Torchwood. Barrowman is too good looking and too American and too Tom Cruise. Alas, I'm sure JK has got the hots for him. Even my own mother smiled in a heavenly manner when Barrowman emerged starkers from concrete rubble. The good looking swine! Down Rover!

can I say this - I am not gay but if I was John Barrowman would be top of my list It sort of proves the stereotypical comment - someone THAT good looking has to be gay !!! HEEE HEEE !!!

Beauty though I suppose is the eye of the beholder ! I always see a Tom Cruise lookalike when I look in the mirror HA ! HA !!!!

I'm sure John Barrowman is a nice chap, but he always comes over a bit smarmy on TV, even when he's being himself. Must admit I didn't watch Torchwood. I'm still a bit miffed at RTD for desecrating Dr Who, so I avoid all of his stuff.

I'm watching an 1980s Who at the moment (Peter Davison: Kinda) and I admire the depth to the story and the different levels. It's dificult to do that in 45 minutes, in the old days of 25 x 4 episodes, the better stories did so much more, at a slower pace.

Re:My God it gets better and better (Torchwood)... 14 Years, 10 Months ago
Actually the standard of writing for 80s "Dr Who" had dropped considerably from the 60s and 70s. One of the strongest Who stories was 'The Mind Robber' in 1968. Standards began to fall during the later stages of the Tom Baker era. I've heard some promising things about the post-RTD period though. We shall see.
