Serena Willams violent behaviour 14 Years, 7 Months ago

I have to say I'm dissapointed by the unsporting and aggressive behaviour of Serena Williams in the US Open semi-final.

When a foot fault was called, she makes aggressive gestures towards the line judge, shouts at her and allegedly says she would kill her. The poor lines woman would be scared to death, have you seen the muscles on Serena!!

As a high profile sports woman with great riches she should be setting an example to young people. I have always liked the Williams sisters, particularly Venus who is ironically the more Serene one, however this outburst is unacceptable and took away the pleasure of the victory from Kim Clijsters.

She's always been an arrogant, graceless, petulant bitch in defeat so is anybody surprised ?

Violent means 'involving great physical force' and that was not the case here where verbal abuse followed raquet abuse. Though unacceptable, the former is very common and a feature of every sport - usually when the pressure mounts.

Don't get bogged down in the semantics of it all. There is verbal violence and physical violence, this was verbally violent.

Rob. 'Verbally violent' is a misnomer - not semantics!

However, I can see where you're coming from.

The medical centre where I work has signs up concerning violence, both physical and verbal. I suspect it's another term we've imported from the USA !
