Despite Obama's direct appeal (and attendance) at the decision process, his town (Chicago) was first eliminated?

Major snub - or remnant of the distaste left by the mad Bush?

I doubt it..the IOC is purely about making money and it's decision is based upon the best presentation it thinks will reach that aim.

I think it's a bonus not winning. In the end government's plough a few billion into what ends up as a vast wasteland and gets little back in return...as London will find out.
