He never seemed right for ITV anyway. But, then again, who does seem right for ITV these days? Their football anchors have to pretend that every match, even the dullest 0:0, is fascinating, and have to shut up anyone threatening to say something vaguely interesting at half time in order to cue up the next phone-in competition to win a year's worth of lager, a vibrating La-Z-Boy recliner or a brand new Subaru Outback. It strikes me that with the sleepily saturnine Chiles they have their squarest peg yet to stick in to their round hole, er, so to speak.
