The "Successful Pilot" saw only 10% of enquiries actually lead to any disclosure which means 90% of those checking were doing so with obviously no evidence of that person being any problem.

The Sex Offenders Register includes those 11 year old kids but it does not include all those Politicians - Police - Judges - etc who have avoided any convictions because they have used their "position" to cover up their actions. The biggest group of paedophiles in the UK are in the Police and Judicial system and Political class. They cover each others back as has been shown in the Hollie Greig case and countless others.

Therefore, Sarah's Law adds nothing at all to Child Protection. It is a gimmick which is costly and who controls this process ? Yes the Police - whom we know we cant trust as we have seen from many many recent events.

Worse than that - if the Sex Offenders Register is to work then the most dangerous offenders - career paedophiles - need to be on that register. But according to the NSPCC this very law may eventually drive these people into hiding. Once thousands have been driven underground then they will be hard to trace - many of them leave the UK and change their identity according to Panorama etc. and will return to the UK totally un-noticed.

Basically, by passing bad laws that dont work you make the problem worse. This is what Sarah's Law does - and many more kids will be hurt because of this law than the small number who might be helped.

I am again suprised that the new COALITION is carrying on with more of New Labour's failed Police State policies.

Let's be honest - this is only to achieve the one vital need - it gives the media good stories ("My new boyfriend turned out to be a pervert"). And why is it named after a little girl who would not have been protected from a stranger who lived elsewhere (as did she)? It should be called Rebekah's Law; another great strike for the tabloids.

By contrast..the most serious offender who has never been caught would be given a clean report and go on to offend. It's actually a potential nightmare of a lawsuit in the making when that happens.

BBC News revealed that out of 600 requests for disclosure less than 60 actually turned up anything. This is a very small number - and that means 540 Men or Women have had their names dragged through the mud in the local Police Station.

I agree that 95% of abuse takes place in the family. But this law is really to deal with predatory abusers in the 5% of abusers.

Dreadful law which can only lead to more abuse going unchecked because if the Father is the breadwinnner then the Wife is hardly likely to blow the whistle and end up on the streets - as is the case in many upper and lower class families.

There was one case I read the papers for where the Father said - "what is wrong with a Father sharing a bed with his daughter" ( who was 14 years old at the time ). The POLICE refused to prosecute him for this and left the 14 year old with the Father ( sharing a one bed flat on their own ) - Social Services did try to suggest that this was not a healthy relationship - but because the girl was terrified into not speaking there was ( the Police said ) nothing they could do about this.

Abusers in the family deserve to lose their kids - abusers who are predatory need help because the law is not going to cure them. Why dont we do anything to stop abusers ? Prison may stop them for a while but if they lose their job and reputation then they are more likely to go on to abuse other children as Roy Whiting did. He should have had therapy and if necessary chemical castration if he could not control his desires. That is the LAW that should bear the name of SARAH. A law to castrate Paedophiles who are predatory and who cant change.

The most obvious way to enforce some restriction on people working with children would be for all those who do to be licensed by a government body. They could do the checks and anyone not passing muster wouldn't get a license.

Instead a government has caved into the worst of all..the apalling NoTW.
