Amazing Scenes for Pope in Westminster today - biggest event in UK this century so far ? 13 Years, 7 Months ago
Truly amazing scenes this morning in Westminster akin to those the BEATLES had when arriving in the USA in the 60s......

The music at Westminster Cathedral has been stunning and on SKY HD through a cinema system it has sounded as loud and big as any rock concert.

This POPE has been totally misrepresented by the UK Media. I was ready to say this visit was a drab waste of time by a POPE who was out of touch .....

The REALITY is this POPE is more in touch than ANY of our leaders in the UK. He has put his finger on the problems facing all of us - and called everyone to sorting out the mess we have made of this World.

The visit goes from strength to strength with growing crowds and now we are seeing the sort of mass hysteria which we have not see in the UK for many years.

Even SKY NEWS has been overwhelmed by the message of this POPE.

That message is about RECONCILIATION and LOVE. Something our country needs more than ever after our evil and illegal wars bringing death to the World in the last 10 years.

It is time for CAMERON to apologise to the MUSLIMS of the Middle East and the UK for the wars and death waged against them. A stain as dark as any on this country that used to stand for freedom and care.

The POPE seems to have woken up many people. If that is his legacy from his visit then it will have been a valuable one.

Fair Do's since the Catholic Church has been misrepresenting the bible since it's inception.
Trinity (pagan teaching)
Christmas (pagan teaching)
transubstantiation (false teaching)
Papal infallibility (unbiblical)
infant baptism (unbiblical)
Forced clerical Celibacy (unbiblical)

I could go on...

I agree.

Initially Benedict seemed a little remote (after the very outgoing John Paul II) but I've been overwhelmed by what he has said during this trip and agree that he has his finger more on the pulse than anyone else in the UK.

I've just watched the Biog on Cardinal Newman (presented by Anne Widdecombe) and was astonished at how anti-Catholic he was prior to his conversion. He gave up virtually everything with his conversion (his sister never spoke to him again). Dedication like that has to be commended - principles which our present leaders could never understand as they put their own gain before anything else.

I will be in Birmingham tommorow morning.

Very reasonable doctrinal points you make.

But our media do not represent the views of ordinary people is what I was suggesting - not trying to give any theological bashing to the media.

I actually agree with your points by the way - but in terms of stealing pagan sites and festival dates it goes back to Pope Gregory who actually suggested it would be easier for people to accept Christianity if these things happened - which does make sense.

But I don't know about you JK - I didn't feel any wiser about the topic at the end! I don't 'get' sainthood! Maybe I was too distracted by Widdy's voice - she always sounds like she's about to yodel. The Vatican programme after was fascinating.

After an early start we arrived pre-dawn (everyone had to be in place by 7.00am ! - security checks etc) and it was initially "weird" being "in a field" in the early morning in the dark. Very light rain (which didn't seem to bother anyone and made it feel even more eirie).

There was an air of relaxed anticipation - that we were about to witness a once in a lifetime event. (No one has ever been beatified in Britain before, and this Pope had never performed the ceremony previously).

It was a truly beautiful event ... so calm and peaceful. I'm not making any spiritual claims, as I've said before, there is "something tangible" about being in a very large group of people all with common purpose. I suppose football matches are the same in a kind of way (except there are two opposing "groups" which tends to make it more confrontational than calming). Perhaps festivals might be a better example.

I've read alot recently about Newman .... this man who once called the Pope an anti-Christ, and even after converting to Catholicism still challenged Papal authority by insisting that personal conscience over-ruled any other doctrine. This makes great sense to me personally. It's know that Pope Benedict has been a follower of Newman for many years too.

People were sharing food, drinks and even clothing ... a really Christian spirit.

The Pope is right ... if Christian principles were more at the heart of normal life (even if you are not a Christian) that can only be a good thing, surely ?

A wonderful day .... I'm very glad that I went, esp as I may never get the chance again.
