I always believed privatisation would save the dining car, how wrong could I have been? I have often used the dining car and paid good money for it, and not it appears it's being pulled because most people do not. Not a good way to run a business in my view as good businesses cherish and look after their regular paying customers. I demand to be fed where ever I may go and I see this as the end of the line (sorry) for rail travel. Good god...I must have paid in about 50 thousand pounds to BR...(that's British Rail...not our lovely conspiracy theorist friend)... not happy. I demand a dining car.

Disagree. Trains now are much more modern and smooth - slam doors are a thing of the past. In Surrey, Connex (a French company) had a large part of the franchise until about six years ago when they lost it because of an awful service; now new trains, like the Gatwick Express, provide a puntual and efficient service with new stock. Further afield, Virgin Rail's railstock is even better/smoother (a full cup of coffee on the table in front of you will not spill!) - although fares can be on the high side.
Dining cars are old hat and not good/econmic use of rolling-stock space. Most of us don't go on trains to be entertained and food served at one's seat (as in planes and the Eurostar) is more than adequate - if the quality is satisfactory.
