Where the government welcomes a report that says that by virtual of having a particular sexual organ, you shouldn't be sent to jail if you break the law.

Yet thousands of men, who happen to have a different sexual organ, now face prison for looking at cartoon pictures on their computer, because of laws that women make.

But if I say anymore I'm a 'misogynist'.

This sort of thing really annoys me too; a recent Longford Lecture by some silly Baroness featured her going on and on about how unfair on children it was for their Mothers to be in prison. The implication was that Fathers and Children mean nothing to each other. Bollocks.

Interesting to note that a far smaller percent of women receive custodial sentences than men.

When similar ideas were flouted for all prisoners remember the meejah outrage? Seems this slipped under the radar.

Wonder what they'd have done with Myra Hindley et al with no prisons for women?

This could never happen surely? How on earth could it be legally justified for a man and a woman to go out and rob a bank (both equally tooled up & pro-active) and the woman get a bit of community service and the man 10 years in the scrubs?

In South America most prisons with women and their children are no more than huge open hostels with other family coming and going for picnics and such.


But it should apply to men as well. In fact the less people jailed the better. Community service is surely a far better idea.

How many go to jail for trivial offenses-especially drugs and have their lives up-ended..losing a job or flat and so on.

Like my friend who tried to rob a bank in Sweden and was able to start a new successful business in jail !..so sensible. (unlike his bank robbery when he propped up a store dummmy with a broom handle opposite a bank and phoned the manager and said there is a man with a gun pointed at you and the manager said.."your accomplice has just fallen over and dropped his broom "! )

You mean the woman always keeps the kids after the divorce?

Notice the report made the outrageous claim that the fact of being a woman should be enough to save you from prison - not 'being a mother with small kids', but simply being a women!

On the one hand, absent fathers are blamed for the decay of society and for the ferral youth of today, on the other, when it comes to custody decisions or sending people to prison, only mothers are important?

If women commit the same crimes as men then they should get the same sentence. Simples. I couldn't give a monkeys if they have kids or not.

and yes Blackit..in the majority of divorces the mother does get to keep the kids but of course, women and men should be treated equally and whatever parent is the caregiver- that should be taken into consideration as they do in South America but then there isn't the stigma attached to jail as there is in Puritan type countries like the US, UK, NZ and Oz.

That's if people really do want less traumatised future generations but asking politicians and those led by the nose by tabloids to consider that there will be another huge swag of young people growing up with all the problems of the last is asking them to tax their brains too much.

No one should go to prison. We should shut them all down. If someone is a danger to society then they should be treated as patients. What good does it do to punish people? Absolutely none. We ignore the causes of crime and so they just keep occurring and we just keep throwing more people in prison. I guess it gives good job security to people working in law enforcement.

And it's just easier to throw people in prison and forget that they exist, right? Let's not ask the tough questions. Society shouldn't have to take any responsibility for the criminals it creates. People do bad things for no other reason than they choose to. It's "free willed." Isn't that where we're at right now with our thinking? Still in the 18th century.

No it isn't. What you are proposing is discriminatory and unfair. Why should only single males be sent to prison? Women who go out and commit the same offences should not be able to bleat "I've got kids so you can't send me down". Its discrimination against single men.

I agree with you that males and females should be treated exactly the same but if a third party will suffer ..ie-kids-it should be taken into consideration.

buts it very complicated and given the current reactionary climate there isn't going to be any change in the prisons..people will get banged up regardless because gutless pollies are too frightened.
