JK, By closing a discussion thread you are acting as a dictator and a hypocrite.

You constantly argue against censorship yet by preventing discussion thats what you are doing.

I think a little more censorship is all that is required. The board is moderated and messages checked before being posted so I assume some messages aiming personal insults against you are never posted which is something everyone would agree is correct. Why not extend that principle? If it is a post by a regular contributor just ask them to contact the moderator offline.

We're your biggest fans JK,but when we feel we can't post here because of the insults of a single poster ruining it for us all then it is indeed a sad day.Even sadder is the fact that u let it develop for so long, then stuck your head in the sand when we pointed this fact out to you.

I couldn't have survived my false allegation and trial without the sympathy and support I received from here.Just look at the recent insults I got on my recent posts. Is it any wonder I and others took the matter into our own hands? Anyone coming here now in my position wouldn't last a single post without the same old poster scaring them away.

I can't speak for others, but i shall go back to lurking until this matter is resolved,I don't want to contribute to a board dominated for so long by a single troll.

I - a frequent board visitor - have not noticed such 'domination'

Perhaps, sometimes a few people take a bit of banter too seriously?

Surely by referring to a certain poster as a "troll" the insults are continuing.

Personally I have seen very little "trolling" on here, more a difference of opinions - sometimes extremely different - and sometimes not presented in the best way.

I don't think anybody is here regularly though just to torment others.

The previous major poster on this board - an intelligent man actually and one who is hopefully still fighting injustice, was also unpopular.

The written word is sometimes difficult as it loses the 'tone' of the vocal one. I'm not smiling as I write this. But no-one here knows that!

I suspect all boards go through this kind of thing.

You may be a frequent visitor, but you're not a registered logged in member on this thread.
Try reading the previous mentioned thread, full of veteran registered posters, all complaining.
Taking actual part can be very different to browsing.

BTB:
Your previous "major poster" - BR - was never the model of conceit, arrogance and rudeness that ITK was. I was perhaps his major tormentor and always found that when he was proved to be wrong he held his hands up, when bluffing - and he certainly did - would not labour a lost cause. I pursued him vigorously, certainly enough for him to have just cause in resenting me. Our last few exchanges proved him to be a gentleman and when he returns from wherever he is {and I'm sure he will} I'll be among the first to welcome him with open arms. Please do not compare him with ITK. He had more than a little grace.

JK:
I'm sure they do. But rarely do they survive them unharmed without some kind of intelligent action on the part of moderators. Simply sticking your head in the sand is not going to be enough to persuade your regulars that
you are at all concerned with looking after their interests. Several of them have already expressed concerns that you really ought to be listening to. They are your boarders. Take them seriously or they'll go somewhere else. You don't care, though, do you? You've already said as much.

I do remember on a few occasions JK getting a little annoyed with BR,and no doubt rightly. He is a character, and when pressured by other boarders did indeed do his best to reform.Good lucdk to him,and may he come back safely.

I do somehow feel this thread has a long way to go,but whether it actually does or not will remain to be seen.
Be nice for veritas to give his opinion,be interesting indeed.

I do think we need to calm down a bit

I agree that the lack of moderation does let through the odd poster who takes advantage of that fact and either trolls or becomes abusive (and we have seen both) and JK tho I love you to bits you seem to have directed your latest posts at the wrong people- the very people who are here for the 'right' reasons.

However, people also need to realise that Mr K does not need to have a forum, and could shut it down at any time, fair enough. Other forums have been through this kind of thing. I have been a member of the forum of US singer-songwriter Janis Ian for many years and at one point she got sick of the negativity from some posters that she just booted them off redesigned it. She divided it into sections and set out what is acceptable in each section, take a look it works great: www.janisian.com/forum/index.php

We all came here for a reason, and that reason, whatever it was, had a connection to Jonathan King.

I hope we can move on.

(Locked Out, I'll email you tomorrow, it's been a while )

JK, You are right that all boards suffer from this sort of thing. The good ones develop a policy on how to handle it. That policy can be very liberal or very strict but it is documented and enforced.
By opening a thread called "Can we have no more personal insults please?" you gave people an opportunity to discuss/debate how board posters would like things done. You didn't have to agree or implement the suggestions but by closing the thread you lost that opportunity.

it's the ultimate power of the moderator and I must admit it can be annoying (although not on here for me so far)

but I won't argue with someone who wears a jacket like that.

There are a few of us though who do not use registered accounts but are fairly regular posters (e.g. Angel, Buck).

I have an account but simply find it easier not to log in due to security settings on my system.

In my moderator role as Dictator and Hypocrite (and looking forward to NATO becoming involved) I now also declare this thread closed - reason; because it's boring me into a coma and my finger no longer agrees to authorise posts to it.

Look at this this way - JK owns this site, he directs this site and he manages this site. If he is unhappy at something about this site, he changes it. It's not a democracy here, because you are in "someone's public house" so to speak.

Million or Billions, still money that could have been used far more wisely elsewhere.
