I met him on the set of "Tommy" back in 1974. A wonderfully mad man. He's known in Portsmouth as the man who burnt down South Parade Pier which is seen ablaze at the end of the movie. That's a real shame, he was a true legend for a good while, a real character, which the media just doesn't seem to produce any more.

I had the pleasure of meeting him some years ago - I'd been warned in advance that he might be difficult, but he was a delight (though rather frail), despite his unhappiness at how impossible it was for him to get any funding for any projects he had on the go.
