Most support Jimmy in this.
It reminds me now I worked on a BBC special about Constant Lambert the classical composer. Unknown was the fact he made Dame Margot Fonteyn pregnant when she was just 16 years old.
Margot never got over the fact he wouldn't married her (she had an abortion)
so Constant was a 'peado" in today's world, an illegal abrotionist (he paid) and a "sex offender". Yet still hailed as one of Britain's great composers.
Usual shite from the muck-raking Daily Heil. Usual rubbish historic allegations that also never take into account that, rightly or wrongly, every male 'star' with a pulse dabbled in ripe teens in the 60s & 70s be they Hendrix or Savile or JK - it was the norm, a perk of the job - and be it seedy or not, no-one in those days was stupid enough to mistake wanting to fuck buxom juicy fertile teens with being a 'paedo'. In fact I understand the finger-wagging publications of Rupert Murdoch also, until recently, had equally 'seedy' countdowns to female stars/models 16th birthdays when they could legally display their wares or be fucked.
That I very much doubt, and suspect we shall never know.
Interesting that the great traveller Savile went all around the country and lived in Leeds yet... the body involved is SURREY POLICE.
I wonder whether the great Max Clifford, Surrey resident and top PR man, had anything to do with it? Informally, of course. He never goes to them, they always come to him...
Michael Howard's "You can get money and stay anonymous by making false allegations" legal clause didn't come into force until the 1990's, opening the massive compensation chest of cash, treasure, sympathy, attention and revenge, Veritas.

Michael Howard was one of the most evil people to enter UK politics. My father says that the halls of Westminster used to darken at the mention of his name.

I liked Jimmy, but to be honest his reputation wasn't that great. There were so many rumours about him, I think that a properly researched biography might be quite welcome in the circumstances.
I thought Theroux went into it thinking he'd hate Savile but ended up liking him, rather as he did with the Hamiltons (all those are or were friends). Whereas the opposite happened with Clifford.
