Good grief I'm surprised JK has ever heard let alone shopped in Aldi. I believe at this stage he's confused with Audie Murphy, whom he probably once interviewed.

How do you know Andrew shops at Tesco? How patronising.
It was a generalisation, FC ... sorry if that is above you !
I think my point is proved.
It's just yet another example of what I've said all along ... people want the cheapest products yet seem not to be able to understand that means also you have to pay the cheapest wages too.

Only Greek economics works differently.
People adapt to their circumstances but millions of people would pay more to support local industry.
successive governments have encouraged manufacturing off-shore (as well as profits to tax havens thus avoiding tax) and colluded in destroying local industry so a inevitable downward's spiral has begun which will have dire circumstances especially in property prices.
Alternatively Britain could be like Germany with it's left wing governments that have encouraged and supported local industry, co-operated with unions and treated them as partners in the process and that is why it still has great welfare benefits and a brilliant economy despite a massive world slump that is coming...2008 being just the beginning.
Aldi do not claim to be the "cheapest". Their aim is to offer the same or better quaity than the leading brand but at a much lower price. I.e. the best VALUE. (Think M&S but without the overheads).
Yes. my wife and I use Aldi a lot, and love the way they keep it so simple. And the speed you get through the check-outs has got to be seen to be believed. No mesing about packing stuff, it just goes back into the trolly.

???
and your evidence is ????
Most Europeans support local industry...because the still have it.
I have faith that the majority would pay a little more to support local producers and preserve local jobs.
I can't prove it but you can't prove the opposite.
Makes you wonder, then, why British manufacturing has disappeared, eh, veritas ?
If ALL these people are queuing-up to buy British goods (at inflated prices) ???
there is this entity called 'government' that citizens place their (misguided) faith in , in the hope they will govern wisely, promote industry to create jobs, tax to build infrastructure etc etc.
You only need a couple of idealoges like Margaret Thatcher & Ronald Reagan plus a Murdoch for the whole edifice to come crumbling down.
plus a certain number of ITKs to celebrate their deeds.
