Re:JK Prediction about The Sun on Sunday 12 Years, 2 Months ago
Hopefully it will fall flat on its face. It certainly won't just absorb the old NOTW readership. Being a news junkie I stagger away from the newsagents with masses of papers on a Sunday, and I always include in those a red top for the gossip, but I'd never buy the Sun on any day. The News of the World had such a history it never felt that odd to read it - it had always had that role and it added to the traditional mix. The Sun, however, has been tarnished for several reasons in certain parts of the country and it just won't repair that damage. I think Murdoch should have gone for an entirely new name and started afresh. That could have worked really well, because these days none of the other Sunday red tops are very good at what they do. Replacing a disgraced title with a slightly less disgraced title is a dubious step forward.

I hope you're right JK - it will remind people just how incestuous (and inherently corrupt) News International is. And go down a bomb on Merseyside.
And put McKuntzie right back in the spotlight - the need to ask him about his hand in Gary Glitter's 20-years-too-long "legendary" career (given how much he's spoken out against him) can be made ever more necessary.

Didn't KM fall out with Murdoch?
As for sunday papers, haven't read one for years. In fact since our local newspaper went weekly late last year, I haven't read anything in newspaper print. Do we really want old news served up weekly?

Local newspapers? Now they really are a waste of paper. You'd think local hacks would be desperate to make a mark and move on, but these days they're hopeless. Amazing when you think how many local journos 20/30 years ago ended up in powerful positions in London.

The local hacks aren't even good enough to be given the distinction of being called a hack. Certainly some of them are on ridiculously low wages (I know that a fact!), yet walk around town like Lord Muck.

that is so true and I find them similar here but then the local tabloids are all owned by Murdoch
I only find in the USA do local journos act sensibly but now the penny has turned..I laugh at hacks here and the UK..brought untold misery upon themselves (and others)

Our local football team used to be covered, many years ago, by a bloke called Neil Custis, who later went on to The Sun. He was actually very good at local level, prodded, asked the right questions and became a pain in the arse of the directors of the team. Now it's just covered by a sycophant who refuses to ask any questions beyond the asinine of 'what's your favourite colour'.

It might have more stunning tits to drool over it might be like The Sport with headlines 'BOY ABDUCTED BY ALIENS RETURNS TO EARTH AS A FISH-FINGER.' In bold capital letters, I was listening to TalkSport and they were laughing when it said 'EXCLUSIVE SUN ON SUNDAY' as front page headline.
Local papers hate them a mockery of the town with silly news too many lights on a house at Christmas, Single mum loses benefits like it isn't her fault she missed the appointment so it is.
KM Messenger was great for non-league football interviewed all the players from then called Ashford Town, ask them where the team was going to be at the season they were honest we be 9th in the table but finished near the top, asked the squad what there day jobs were etc.
Local rags should of been abolished decades ago only old people read them even they admit it's crap.
