Apparently a TV commercial which features Brian Wilson's superb song 'God Only Knows' has got a whole new generation loving the Beach Boys. The power of TV combined with immense talent is incredible...it spans whole generations.
ITV could learn more from the commercials they broadcast than any number of their shows.
It's not as loving as people think it is listen to the first line. People overlook lyrics and never understand the song, just listen to Timothy by The Buoys it's not about a donkey which people do think it is.
FC - this is a topic which really should be on the Tipsheet board - especially as so few in the music industry bother to examine such things, let alone discuss them.
I think after The Brits it may well be worth expanding there.
Easier said than done FC - I have no idea how to move threads from one forum to the other! So I reckon we'll pick up on it after The Brits have astounded us viewers with their originality, passion and energy!
The only thing that spoils it for me is that clumsy 'bah bah bah baah' in the middle - everything else is so dreamily smooth in the song it didn't need that old-style Beach Boy conceit.

I know what you mean, but just a thought .... without that bit, what contribution would the rest of the Beach Boys have made ?!
By this time Brian had stopped touring and stayed in LA to make the tracks, and Carl sings lead vocals.
In fact, another Pet Sounds track, "Caroline, No" was issued (in the USA) as a Brian Wilson solo single.
