Massive defeat for loony Labour 12 Years, 1 Month ago
George Galloway has won the Bradford bye election by more than 10,000 votes ..... overturning a 5000 Labour majority.

He won 56% of the vote.

Time for Milipede to sign-on !!!!

Where are your opinion polls now, david?

Well done George - I've always like mavericks and there's something fresh and honest about Galloway.

I lived in Bradford from 90-95,I even worked for Labour during the by-election after Pat Wall's death...Labour won that one

Oh and by-elections often don't follow forecasts, due to the much smaller electorate.

I'd be more worried by how badly the coalition did.

'A Liberal Democrat spokesman said the party was "clearly disappointed" with the result.'
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17549388

Still great fun,it's good to know individuals can thrive in today's big money political environment.

What an egomaniac he is: 'This is the most sensational by-election result ever, bar none'! There are several far more significant, not least Tony Benn's victories either side of the Peerages Act (the first of which he won massively even though he was legally blocked from entering the Commons). It was a shrewd move to elect him, though.

Bradford never was (nor ever will be !) a target Tory seat !

Labour, on the other hand, cannot even hold onto a seat in their heartland which they have held for more than 40 years !!!

When you aspire to be the next government you have to hang on to your own seats and win others LOL !

It's a total rejection of the Milipede !

(Perhaps the voters - like ITK - couldn't understand him talking down his nose?
.... or perhaps they could !!!!! - and sensed an eternal opportunist devoid of ideas, just trying to blame every mistake caused by his own party on everyone else?)

If they have any hopes of winning the next election (by which time the debt will have been repaid and Labour will have nothing to gripe about) they should be making inroads and building a momentum - not losing "safe" seats humiliatingly !

I thought Miliband was supposed to be sensible? Voters must have been seduced by image!

Repaying the debt? Quite the opposite!

"Labour between 2005 and 2010 increased the debt burden by 18.4 points (...) the current expectation from the OBR published last week was that the coalition would increase the debt from 52.5% of GDP to 76.3% of GDP, an increase of 23.8 points."

The coalition will pile on more debt than any modern government

It certainly was a target seat when I was involved in the election.

the BBC's chief political correspondent Norman Smith said the poll, coming at the end of a difficult week for the coalition government, should have been a "stroll in the park" and that there were questions whether the Labour leadership could connect with its core supporters

from - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17564775 - as is ....

Baroness Warsi, said governments tended not to win by-elections and the result was more damaging for Labour.

"If Labour can't win one of their safe seats in these tough economic times and in a tough week for the government, how can they win anywhere?

"Not in half a century has an Opposition come back from such an appalling result to win a majority at the next general election.

"This tells you everything you need to know about Ed Miliband's weak leadership."

I note your stats are from LEFT foot forward !!!! LOL !

What utter nonsense ... the government are CUTTING our debt burden BUT still have to pay the interest of Labour's debt until it is paid off !

New Labour will forever be remembered as the government that doubled the national debt, from 40% of GDP in 1997 to 80% in 2014.

Debt interest (per year) ... last loony Labour year - £27.2 BILLION / 2010/11 - £42.9

The bigger your credit card bill gets ... the more you have to pay in interest ... thats why its imperitive that we reduce the debt burden (and not increase it as the loonies suggest).

There are few 'star' candidates like Galloway and looking at the electorate, it would be odd if he didn't win.

ITK- you still claim debt is bad which it isn't (although I was taught not to buy what I couldnlt afford and don't). Otherwise no-one would have a mortgage with people paying mainly interest payments for decades.

It's part of the system and there is no reason for a government to avoid debt, depending on how it is incurred.

It's more evidence that tabloids/media have schooled voters into believing banalities.

## Nu Labour (if onloy they were loony, did as the Tories do, sold off assetts on the phony claim private managers do a better job (yet to be proved).
There are dozens of examples that show cutting services, welfare etc ect will lead to greater expense for a future government.

A certain amount of debt,if the money is used wisely, and invested in infrastructure etc that will benefit the economy then fine.
Borrowing to bribe the electors, and piling up debt for 'short-termism' is both silly and daft.

Galloway is not a "star" candidate ... I didn;t even know he was standing till 3 days before the poll.
Labour had chosen their local Council leader ... shows what the electorate think of that !!!

Interesting that you advise others to do something you avoid !

Mortgages are an entirely different entity. You are buying a major purchase which, will increase in value, and will be worth more when you have bought it thasn it cost (until loony Labour came along of course).

Compare that to people who were encouraged to buy (on tick) the latest gadget or mobile phone - which was out-of-date (and had lost 90% of its value) before they got it home from the shop !!!

It's part of the system and there is no reason for a government to avoid debt, depending on how it is incurred.
Long term infastructure, yes ... but not short term "vote buying" and encouraging the wasters to stay on the dole.

Talksport let George go a few weeks ago, as they intend to go '24 hour sport' (which won't work). A massive bollock dropped by Moz Dee there.

Be interesting to see what will happen to Talksport ratings from Monday not even 5 Live is 24/7 sport station. Talksport will be very tedious there is only so much of sport you can talk about, most of the time they be repeating itself. No more dodgy phone calls and Nigel from Maidstone will be bored.

Yep. I can imagine now - 3.30am, and now live coverage of the Tiddly Winks Finals in Taiwan. Followed by snail racing in Billericay.
