why can't we buy songs from International I-Tunes sites? 17 Years, 6 Months ago
I was so happy to see the new U2/Greenday
collaboration on the UK I-tunes site, since it
is being played on the radio in the U.S. but
will not be available for purchase til Nov.14.
I happily plugged in my user name and password
and was told I was not authorized to use the
foreign website which promptly deported me to
the United States site without so much as a
fare thee well. Why can't we cross buy material
from all the Itunes sites if we have a valid
credit card? Anyone know?

Actually that is very confusing, as I assumed that things like Gnarls Barclay were guaranteed their UK chart position prior to release here by overseas I-tunes sales,on an earlier release. I think it looks like that loophole may have been plugged.Cheers for posting that, as a track of mine is only on I-tunes in the States and I assumed that made it available to all, either way the downloads are dripping in from my own site, and the money is immediate and gratefully recieved.
I wish the charts would settle down again, all the new regulations etc are making them cease to matter again, and most posters on here, like them mattering.

Because the old model of contracts still exists, certain territories own rights others dont.
So iTunes has to limit availability territorially.

On our wedontdo... sites we make it clear it's GLOBAL (the new technological region) and we've even tested it that someone in Shanghai can buy The Silver Stoat with their local Chinese credit card.

We are the future!

Copyright is one problem, the other is price 17 Years, 6 Months ago
0.99 Pound (UK) is a lot more than 0,99 Dollar or 0,99 Euro.

Apple (and all other transnational companies) want to get the highest price, so they prefer a sales-system based on territories.

The Hollywood studios even introduced regional coding (artifical barriers) to create different markets.

Another point: Local salesmen/women (at least theoretical) know their markets better than someone in NY, LA or even London.

So JK, if you would open a local online-shop in China (with specifically targeted promotions and hypes, and local prices), maybe you could sell even more downloads.

I agree on two points: firstly, no reason not to sell at 99 euros. It's not an extraorinary amount of money, about the price of an ice-cream in fact.

Secondly, local knowledge is power. An awful lot of people spontaneously go to local sites rather than global.

I think you guys are missing the point.
Local versions of itunes is good and necessary but lets
not have the ridiculous situation where one can preview the track on itunes USA but cannot buy it, instead one has to seek the illegal version

Their site should be able to point us in the right direction, rather than saying "Shove off". But I haven't bought anything off iTunes for a while, so I can't remember.

It's just the way copyrights are controlled .. sure some itunes stores have
repertoire that others don't - that's also because the artists label may not have
administered the tracks to all the different stores.

From my understanding these are the stores:

UK/Europe
USA
Canada
Australia
Japan

However if a track has been licensed to a third party record label
in one or more territories outside of the home market, then it's
up to the licensee to up the tracks into their local iTunes stores.

Whatever some might say - iTunes Music Store is still the original and best
in the market.
