I don't think bagpipes reproduce well on TV or radio, or when recorded and played on an audio system. However whether in the open air or in a concert hall, I find being in the physical presence of bagpipes extremely stirring and enjoyable, and I'm not from Scotland! I think you are right. you really have to be there for bagpipes.(though not too near) Its the same with fireworks. There is no point in them being televised at all.
