AA Advert 18 Years, 1 Month ago
There's an ad on TV at the mo' with a version of "You've Got a Friend" (if I remember correctly).

I realise they were trying to fit it into a tight time schedule but did they really have to keep chopping out whole beats every other bar or so?! The time signature is all over the place!

That's my whinge for today

I'm so glad you mentioned this Kev. It drives me mad every time I hear it! 18 Years, 1 Month ago
Talk about mutilating a song!
Don't they realise a break is as important as a vocal??

Actually I rather like it... 18 Years, 1 Month ago
And all credit to the editors for chopping it in to the one minute or less format, and keeping as many of the (probably) unpaid extras in it.
I rather like the RAC ad at the moment as well, although, the Green Flag one is truely horrid.(the Self Preservation Society, yet again....)
Talking TV advertising as we are, again, you still cannot beat the gay guinea pigs, or the ageing rugby team.
Its also interesting , that I have no idea who the above two adverts are for, and yet I have clocked the name of the car rescue companies from their submissions.

Yes the Guinea pigs are a good one. Some credit-card I think, not really working if we don't know though is it?

All adverts are the same I do have 2 favourite adverts; Beefy and Lamby the two cricketers and Budweiser.

Remedy adverts are funny, they are ill but as soon as they take one pill or something they are better and want to go out.

Post edited by: JK2006, at: 2006/03/13 21:43

The Beefy and Lammy one, really surprised me when it first appeared. Mainly for it`s use of cricketers, and being prior to cricket fever hitting the UK.
Botham had allways been in advertising, but the usage of Alan Lamb, has actually probably made him more famous in this part of the world, than he was for playing cricket.
A brilliant move by the ad agency when you think about it, the ad has run a lot longer than it would have done before the Ashes this summer. Great prediction, that the sport would become trendy, and probably a great deal of luck.

I still think from an art director in an ad agency perspective that Ian Botham and Allan Lamb are so 1987! I know they are recognisable icons but it's time to move on surely?

Well yes Brian but..... 18 Years, 1 Month ago
Ian Botham is still respected worldwide, for being the first cricketer to get publicly disgraced by the tabloids, and is also respected as one of the greatest cricketers ever.
He is doing very well on SkySports, and is loved by all, when he speaks his mind , all cricket fans listen.
A quick quote from him that I recall, when he was flattened by the media after getting off a plane, years later...something like..."If i was a footballer , they would have told me how to deal with this....."
I do think his retort against, and indeed FOR the cricket establishment has been fantastic.
He is a lovely feller, and even came to my old school to demonstrate batting and bowling skills.
I do not agree with them being 80`s icons, as at that time I was embarrased to tell my freinds that I was a cricket fan, it just was not conduscive to my rock and roll job.

Good Point About Mr Jagger... 18 Years, 1 Month ago
He is actually such a huge cricket fan, that he introduced his friend Paul Getty, to the game, and raised some decent money as a result.
Bill Wyman also plays, and occaisonaly on a repeat on Sky, he can be seen playing in a celebrity match , in which he bowled a hat-trick.
