Sorry, JK, this is very anorakish, but the video of this song keeps popping up on my YouTube feed, I can't ever resist watching it, and it's just so evocative of a certain Sixties vibe...and I believe you had a role in its promotion. Didn't you have some of them on your show and made them talk about the fact onbly the vocalist was on the recording? How did all of that unfold?

No connection to the promotion but yes, they did choose to come on my TV show to admit they had not played on the track (which, in those days, was standard for young bands - we used session musicians for most tracks). Steve the singer was a terrific vocalist and I believe still tours with great success.

Ah, thank you. The story I've read is that you 'ambushed' them on screen by revealing the facts. I believe Steve now lives, or used to live, in one of Roger Daltrey's properties.

Steve Ellis is a very underrated singer IMHO. He was about 17 or so when he recorded it and had a very mature voice. He still tours, in those package 60's concerts. I am surprised that Chris Farlowe is still going and still has a powerful voice I am told.
