Def Leppard's worst album will still be better than 99% of the trendy rubbish that NME pushes.

Hadn't Def Leppard made a sizeable dent in America by their early twenties? Can't say that about many NME hyped bands nowadays can we.

It might seem like clever or edgy journalism by Dan Silver, but it was hardly a risk given the fact that practically none of the NME core readership are fans of Def Leppard and are likely to be offended.

He should try the same approach every week.

Yeah, but no , yeah but...

You do kind of lay yourself wide open with one word album titles, which the Def`s have mainly stuck to.
The title "Yeah", doesnt capture the imagination of using the word "Pyromania", regardless of the quality of the music.
A case in point was Bowie, "The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars." Everyone went WOW! What`s that all about!
Fourteen years later, Bowie releases an album entitled "Tonight".
Had I been a reviewer of that album, I would not have been able to resist writing, "maybe tomorrow , as I`m washing my hair."
"Yeah", will sell enough to their fan-base anyway, but it must be depleting ,due to the ageing of the fans, I have four of their cd`s, but I don`t feel the need to own anymore, and the NME review has not put me off at all, but the title has made me think that I already know what it sounds like.
And whilst reading this, bare in mind, that I am a fan of their music.

Def Lepp were very much an Ent USA band... 17 Years, 10 Months ago
and we helped them break through the hugely popular TOTP American chart rundowns in the 80's...
I like them a lot as people and loved their music.
Photograph is great.

I watched the bio pic on them twice, and it was tragic how they could not save their guitarist from his dreadful illness, but amazing how their drummer triumphed against his awful accident.
Two amazing stories of tragedy and triumph, and they come up with...ahem..."Yeah"?

reading this thread lead me to checking out Yeah on itunes. Great taste in music. Bought The Golden Age Of Rock and Roll and will consider getting the album. NME are just being snobby as usual. More people will enjoy Def Lep than will ever hear Forward Russia or whatever schmindie nonsense....

And that`s the whole idea of the Tipsheet Fred.... 17 Years, 10 Months ago
..be it start in a controversial way or not, it has no doubt introduced people to a record that may not have been on your and many other peoples earholes today.
Inadvertantly of course, NME, probably helped it along as well.

Joe is a really great guy, i've met him a couple of times. Very down to earth and genuine.

20th Century Boy, Rock On, Waterloo Sunset, Hell raiser, little Bit of love, He's Gonna Step On You Again, Golden Age of Rock'n'Roll - plus lots more - Fantasic track listing. Bowie did it with Pin-Ups. Take some great songs, (and not all that well known or heard these days), and put the Def Leppard style to them - Wonderful.

Fred - BTW - Did you get into "Golden Age of Rock'n'Roll" when you shopped at a certain record store in Warwickshire?
