TOPIC: Eurovision 2017

Eurovision 2017 6 Years, 11 Months ago
I have to admit (to Hugh's delight) that our UK entry has grown on me - there is a very good dance treatment around by 7th Heaven. There is a problem that it's not instant (I always believed a Eurovision winner needed to reach you within 30 seconds). But it is not bad at all. Fingers crossed. The first semi final tonight.

I rather liked Portugal, Belgium and Montenegro in the first semi.

For some time I've thought Italy should win this year. I still feel that.

A little too similar to "Euphoria" in its 7th Heaven mix but an overall improvement on a mediocre song.

25/1 at present

I think Italy will win and by a huge margin. Its instant and for me one of the best Eurovision songs ever.

After both semis I still reckon Italy but really like Portugal - also Belgium, Romania (which is truly original combining rapping and yodelling), Bulgaria (he's very cute, the Bulgarian Bieber) and, believe it or not, the UK. Hey - six decent entries in Eurovision? A good year.

The three hosts, mind you, are appalling.

Belgium all the way for me.

People have been commenting on how nervous she is, but I thnk that's quite touching.

I'm delighted you like that David; I find it charming too.

Looking back on the bbc eurovision site, Bye Bye Baby by Jemini is actually one of the uk's best entries in the last 20 years, at least it has a memorable tune (can anyone remember any uk entries from the last 10 years).

Is there anyway that Daz Sampson (probably the best uk entry since we won it) could get away with this routine post operation yewtree.

Any bands like Lordi in it this year ?

Eurovision needs another metal invasion and Napalm Death should enter next year for Britain and Napalm Death are loved in Europe.

At least we will get more points.

No please, once was enough. This kind of band doesn't belong on Eurovision.

Ah one area of disagreement Robbie; I think Eurovision should feature every kind of music - the only condition being - will it win? Is it a hit? Does the performance capture the eyes and the sound the ears, heart and brain?

The reason I've been going on about Italy for months is because for me it's the first obviously huge global smash since Loreen and Euphoria. But what do I know? (Answer - everything).

I've come to love the Portugal entry; beautifully sung, lovely song, could do a Common Linnets (remember the Dutch song that came second but outsold most of the others).

For me - performance of the year; Croatia; every year I find the Croatian entry interesting; clever; original; Freddy Mercury would love him.

Australia - the love child of Nadal and Raquel Welch; but a decent song; really, musically the best Eurovision in ages. At last.

I must say I didn't think anything of the UK song in the UK finals but it's really grown on me although I'd have used the 7th Heaven mix (far stronger and more instant); she did a very good performance and I reckon we'll be deservedly top ten.

Despite picking Italy as the winner I think Romania is my favourite of the lot; Yodel and Rap work brilliantly and absolutely get my vote; wonderful!
