Rwanda 1 Week, 3 Days ago
There are two issues here and, as usual in society this Century, the first has suffocated the second. 1) Is Rwanda safe? Answer - not if you're gay or bi. Which, I suspect, 90% will now claim to be. 2) Stop the small boats. Answer - put on regular cheap ferries with all passsengers to go through strict immigration. That will kill off the expensive people smugglers, save a fortune in expenses for police, coast guards etc and simplify the inevitable border examination procedures. Simples. Decent. Saves lives. DOH!

If only Rwanda was about immigration rather than Rishi and his pals careers - then your plan could be debated!

According to the Supreme Court Rwanda is not safe. The bill specifically directs judges to exclude aspects of human rights legislation.

Anyone voting for this Government is a deeply immoral human being.

Leave the ECHR and arrest all who cross from a safe country.
Much easier and cheaper, and will stop the problem overnight.

That's a non starter.

Ferries are already cheap and pleasant compared to spending upwards of £5,000 just to jump on a rubber boat in discomfort and danger.

I've often wondered why many of these don't just pay a standard fare and come across normally and then stake their claim. Isn't it because almost none of these people carry valid documentation and passports in the first place and actually wish to enter the UK that way.

This whole fiasco is a major failure of British and French statecraft and shames both countries equally.

If it wasn't for the dole they wouldn't be here. There is nothing in the UK worth coming besides people sponging off the tax payers.

France has better weather, food, houses, booze and transport. They probably don't give away free money to use with no documents or I.D.

Excellent points JK 'open all borders'. But, CLOSE the decades ongoing source of desperate mass migrants from the Middle East to Europe and Far East to OZ. The US/UK/OZ Military greed/Fake Media Industrial Complex for careers, ratings, resources, and profit.

Trashing millions of families, lives and homes. Perversely masked as 'Public Protection' - in fact a fake virtue-waving Public Protection-RACKET.

Check, Truthful American most decorated Marine, Major General Smedley Butler, 1933, "War is a Racket. I could have given Al Capone a few hints, he only operated in 3-districts, I operated on three continents. WAR is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

You rather sweetly assume (I think) that our Government - the one that removed our most fundamental freedoms during Covid for political reasons - would only use the increased powers to undermine our human freedoms that leaving the ECHR would grant it, against Johnny Foreigner; and not also against its own citizens. I believe you are naieve in this regard.

No government will leave ECHR, the cabinet is full of neo-cons also. The Lords and MPs were happy to put lockdowns and house arrests into law but ECHR went silent on that.

I have a feeling Rishi will be gone soon.
