Let's all remember this as the year we got half a dozen genuine hits entered into Eurovision.
I'm sad my pick from months ago, Russia, came second (I put £100 on it at 66-1) but the moment I saw Finland perform in the semi finals I suspected we had a pop/metal winner.
The beauty of Lordi is that it combines humour (always an essential rock ingredient) with a great song (another essential - see Aerosmith, Bonjovi, Stones etc).
The same goes for the delightful Lithuanian entry - We Are The Winners. They weren't but they were.
I felt, after the semis, that Bosnia was the strongest local language entry. I still feel Romania had a real global dance-pop hit. And Sweden was the best of the "old style" Eurovision entriies. And all of those occupied the Top Six.
As for Daz, I felt sorry for him and my Tip Sheet protegees Joe and Ric the Cuban Boy but our UK entry was always a long shot. I hated the song but thought it was far and away the best Song For Europe contender. Perhaps now the BBC will find a different route to choose our annual entry.
It took me three years to find a winner though I'm still proudest of the first two JK entries - Love City Groove which brought back different ages and colours into the contest and Gina G which was a global smash and which I still think was the best Eurovision entry ever.
Perhaps we should start a "bring back JK" campaign.
Fat chance!
