It is hard to understand what is going on, his silence and behaviour hasn't exactly done him any favours has it? However, the whole business does have the hallmarks of a tabloid witch-hunt though, I mean how cheap and easy would it be to "buy" those girls to make allegations, let's face it "V for Vile", who is going to be bothered whether they're true or false? I watched the show "Come Home Gary Glitter?" last night wondering if it would put forward a balanced view but it did not.... 2 things that disturb me most about this do not really involve the man himself and what he has done, but the media's reaction to it.
Firstly, there appears to be a complete lack of people coming forward to say what a vile pervert he is, really if he was such a monster I'm sure his reputation would be legendary. Where are his relatives, ex's, staff, former friends etc??? For such a notorious man, there seems to be nothing out there about him.
Secondly, I find the white-washing of him out of history quite chilling, there is no need to write someone out of the equation just because they looked at some distasteful picture. My own personal opinion of his work is that he produced a run of 6 consecutive great singles that stand up to anything else produced in the glam-rock era (Rock & Roll thru to I Love YOu LOve Me Love) and most therafter was shoddy re-makes (Oh Yes You're Beautiful anybody?), but for someone who had 11 era-defining consecutive top ten hits including 3 numbers ones, to whitewash them out of history (and I doubt very much whether we'd even have the 73 & 74 Rock'n'Roll Years shown now) is terribly Orwellian. He was a washed-up has-been 30 years ago, but that doesn't make that initial run of hits any less great (the drums and guitar sounds are stone-cold magic). In fact, this I find so appalling it tempts me to defend whether he's guilty or not.
Lastly though, I think the tabloid press have demonised him, prevented him from seeking help and making attempts to understand the appeal of "child porn" (we know not what level of filth he had though), and really all he's guilty of seems to be a slighty pervy lust for young ladies (not text-book children), something which, if people are entirely honest (sadly, these days intellectual honesty is terribly rare), most men feel when they catch sight of a shapely young lolita but keep their desires harnessed. The only "juicy goss" I've heard is that Glitter felt Colleen Nolans botty when she was 15 on TOTP....

Re:Mike Leander died many years ago and was actually totally responsible for the early hits (nm) 19 Years, 1 Month ago

I have seen a lot of people say that Mike Leander was the one who was the big gun on the early gitter hits, but always had my doubts, i mean Mike wrote a lot of songs for Gary in the 1960s, but none were hit's, until Gary started co-wrigthing the songs with him. Neither did he find another act near the stature of Gary Glitter (the closest he came was with the backing groups own chart records). I mean, I don't know who did what exactly, I wasn't there when songs such as "Leader Of The Gang" or "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again" were written and recorded, but personally I suspect both men made great input into the music.
